On Creating A Writing Assistant That Can Write Like You, Custom Instructions, and More
Today's post is a wrap-up on some unfinished business from Workshop #1, before we plunge into tools to equip our learners in Workshop #2
Back from a quick trip to Virginia Beach (more on that below) and I love traveling because the minute out get out into big, wide open spaces - my mind starts popping like a movie theater popcorn popper.
Then on Saturday I spent much of the day preparing for this coming week, including a build-up for Workshop #2 - equipping our learners with AI tools to future-proof them for what the world will look like when go post-secondary.
Let’s get into it.
Customizing Your Writing Partner
Here’s The Big Idea: If you use AI to write and save you time, it will sound like it was written by AI, unless you “tune” it to a writing style. Creating a customized writing partner can be one of your most immediate wins - because you can just tell it what you want it to day (especially in difficult conversations) and it finds the perfect words.
Avoid This Mistake: What a lot of users do when trying to fine tune a LLM on a specific writing-style, is load up a bunch of writing samples. Then then say “write like this” and often end up disappointed by the results. The “memory” or context window of the AI is jammed up with a bunch of details from the writing samples, which waters down the focus on style and voice.
